Submission Procedure

We accept applications for reviewing human and animal ethical aspect of the research proposals. The investigators need to submit their proposals along with all listed documents below before 30th of every month enabling the reviewers to go through them and discuss at the ERC meeting in the mid of the following month. Sticking to these dealine will avoid unnecessary delays.

It is a requirement to send two hard copies of the application and required documents as follows
  1. One set of applications and documents with names of the investigators
  2. Another set of applications and documents anonymously (for blind reviewing)
In addition to these documents, two soft copies (one with author information and another copy for blind review) shall be submitted to erc@wyb.ac.lk

Hard copies of the application and all the required documents should be sent (or handover) to ;

Wayamba University of Sri Lanka,
Makandura, Gonawila (NWP)


ERC usually meet in the third week of every month and the decision on the submitted proposals will be sent to the investigator within 01 week after the meeting.

Average time taken to get a decision from ERC of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka would be 15-45 days depends on the date of submission.

An application for the review of the ethics of proposed biomedical research should be submitted by a qualified researcher responsible for the ethical and scientific conduct of the research. 

All documentation required for a thorough and complete review of the ethics of proposed research should be submitted by the applicant.
This may include, but is not limited to,

  • Signed and dated application form;
  • The protocol of the proposed research (clearly identified and dated), together with supporting documents and annexure;
  • A summary (as far as possible in non-technical language), synopsis, or diagrammatic presentation (‘flowchart’) of the protocol;
  • A description (usually included in the protocol) of the ethical considerations involved in the research;  
  • Case report forms, diary cards, and other questionnaires intended for research participants;
  • When the research involves a study product (such as a new food or pharmaceutical or device under investigation), an adequate summary of all safety, pharmacological, pharmaceutical, and toxicological data available on the study product together with a summary of clinical experience with the study product to date (e.g., recent investigator’s brochure, published data, a summary of the product’s characteristics);
  • Investigator (s)’s curriculum vitae (updated, signed, and dated);
  • Material to be used (including advertisements) for the recruitment of potential research participants;
